Local Eagle Scout Builds Pollinator Garden at Moccasin Lake Nature Park
Every Eagle Scout project leaves a tangible, lasting improvement to a public space. Tyler Fabiszewski, a member of Troop 340 (a co-ed troop chartered all the way back in 1941, meeting weekly at Seminole United Methodist Church's historic log cabin), chose Moccasin Lake Nature Park for his.
The project centered on the park's pollinator garden, an area dedicated to attracting the butterflies, bees, and other pollinating species that make Florida's native plant ecosystems function. Tyler built new housing for ladybugs and butterflies, gave the garden's kiosk and trellis a fresh coat of paint, and designed signage explaining pollination to park visitors, turning a cozy corner of the park into a small, self-guided lesson in ecology.
It's worth noting that Tyler is one of 91 scouts from Troop 340 to reach Eagle Scout rank since the troop's founding. It is a reminder that this kind of hands-on community investment in Moccasin Lake isn't a one-time thing. Scouts, garden clubs, and local volunteers have been shaping this park, one project at a time, for decades.
Next time you walk past the pollinator garden, take a second to read the signage and notice the small infrastructure, like the butterfly housing, that someone built for guests like you!
